Earlier this year, Airbnb hired Food Shift to manage food recovery for their four-day 800-staff convention in San Francisco. The occasion of Earth Week inspired Airbnb to hire Food Shift to create a 5 day program for Airbnb staff highlighting the issue of food waste, the prominent role it plays in the environmental arena and what we can do about it.
Food Shift worked with Airbnb to develop a playful and engaging educational experience for 400 Airbnb employees.
The week began with a short eye-opening quiz that pointed out many of the ways in which food waste is linked to other pressing environmental issues such as water conservation.
Programming included a Daily Tip e-mailed to all employees. Each e-mail provided information and an actionable activity related to a particular aspect of food waste and the environment. Recology® compost bins and Seed Tabs® seed packets were distributed along with helpful tools for mindful grocery shopping and the facts of “sell-by” and “use-by” dates.
