Dear Food Shift Community,
It’s time to say farewell and thank you for an incredible eight years. Leading this organization has been the most challenging and rewarding experience of my life. So many hands, hearts, and minds helped to meld this dream into reality, and I am eternally grateful to all of you.
Born with a vision to increase awareness of the consequences of wasted food and to catalyze and amplify solutions, Food Shift’s goal, since day one, was to build a movement, not just an organization. We’ve been influential thought leaders and proved a model that moves beyond charity, embraces social enterprise, and uplifts the power of food. Our work helped spark a movement, and is leaving a lasting impact on people’s lives.
The Food Shift team has worked incredibly hard over the past year to build capacity, strengthen cohesion, refine operations, and generate revenue—making this transition possible. It’s a dream come true to step away at a time when the organization is thriving, and I am endlessly grateful and inspired by the passion, dedication, focus, adaptability, and love that the Food Shift staff invests into their work everyday.
I’ve poured my heart and soul into this work, and it’s time now for me to shift gears and enter a new phase of my life. In early 2020 my partner and I will welcome our first child into this world, and after 12 years together we will be married in July.
I am excited to stay engaged with Food Shift as an advisor and to see it boldly meet the challenges and opportunities of the future. I’m thrilled to welcome Yuka Nagashima into the Executive Director role and have complete faith in her leadership. She shares Food Shift’s values—waste nothing, value everything, put people first, and honor the sacredness of food.
I would be delighted to celebrate this journey and exciting transition with you on December 14th at our special holiday event. Join us if you are able, thanks again for believing in our work, and please stay in touch.
