We’re Hiring: Kitchen Steward

Title: Kitchen Steward

Hours: 8am-2pm Monday- Thursday

Compensation: $17-$20 per hour, depending on experience

Status: Temporary, part-time

Location: 677 W. Ranger, Alameda CA 94501

Job Description:

The responsibilities of the Kitchen Steward are vital to the everyday operations and production at The Food Shift Kitchen. The Food Shift Kitchen is a unique social enterprise that transforms produce that would have otherwise been wasted into nutritious meals for the community, while providing job training and employment to formerly homeless individuals.

The Steward role supports the functioning of the kitchen and projects to allow the Culinary Educator to focus on maintaining controls  in kitchen production and instructing apprentices in culinary skills. While these task are performed by the steward they are tasks that are supported and supervised by the Culinary Educator.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Support person for the food bank Pilot Project project
    • Receiving product
      • Organizing and logging all in-bound and out-bound donations
      • Support in prepping & cooking of produce
      • Packaging of outgoing product
      • Setting up outgoing ¬†product
        • Contacting Copia drivers
        • Logging in out going donation in Copia App
  • General support
  • Maintaining and organizing walk in
  • Tracking all food loss and other kitchen metrics as needed
  • Manager on duty in absence of Culinary Instructor

Qualifications:

  • ServSafe Manager Certification
  • At least one year of experience working in a kitchen
  • Food assembly and prepped meals experience a plus
  • Experience and ability managing/coordinating others
  • Leadership skills
