On November 7th and 14th (from 10am to 1pm) come pick persimmons from a farm in Vacaville for donation to a food bank. Last year volunteers harvested 52,000 pounds of fruit. Bring your whole family, do some good and come home with persimmons!
For those unfamiliar with the story, Charlotte is a widow who inherited an orchard of 810 persimmon trees loaded with 100,000+ pounds of fruit. She is not a farmer and wanted to donate the fruit to the hungry. Three years ago, she contacted The Urban Farmers to ask for help with harvesting and donating her persimmons as previously, all her fruit went to waste. The extended community gathered together and rescued the harvest. Now we harvest again.
More details on the event can be found here.
