PAWsitive Bones dog treats are a 100% upcycled, locally-made product, created to take climate action and build capacity in our community. Food Shift’s mission is to find value in the overlooked, whether it’s produce, talent, or our furry companions! Each treat is intentionally made:
For pups: Elevating wholesome and nutritious ingredients into delicious treats
For people: Handmade by food-safety-certified apprentices and graduates of Food Shift’s culinary training program
For the planet: Recovering and transforming ingredients that would otherwise go to waste

Three simple, all-natural ingredients create our high-fiber, nutrient-rich treats for our precious pups. Each ingredient has been recovered from entering the local food waste stream.
Spent Grain: ReGrained’s SuperGrain+® flour made from grain left over from the beer making process at local breweries
Bananas: Rescued at peak ripeness from local grocers
Chicken Fat: Skimmed and repurposed from bone broth production at Three Stone Hearth
Upcycling is the process of giving something a second life, creating a new, value-added product.
ReGrained’s SuperGrain+® flour takes the wheat, rye, and barley left behind in the beer-making process and mills it into a fine, nutritious flour.
This product does not contain beer, hops, or alcohol.
All three PAWsitive Bones ingredients are sourced from mission-aligned, local businesses. Our spent grain is ReGrained’s SuperGrain+® flour, our chicken fat used is a byproduct leftover from bone broth production at Three Stone Hearth, and bananas are recovered from wholesale produce vendors that participate in our food recovery program, Operation Together.
Each 5 oz. pouch is resealable and compostable (in commercial composting facilities), with a recyclable label adorned with artwork from Food Shift’s Artist-in-Residence, Colin Kimzey.
If kept in a cool, dry place, PAWsitive Bones are shelf stable for at least a year… assuming your pup has that kind of willpower. Food date labeling is one of the many contributors to wasted food; therefore, we have intentionally omitted an expiration date.
All proceeds fund Food Shift’s food recovery and social enterprise kitchen programming, nourishing our neighbors and offering culinary training and employment to people overcoming employment discrimination.
Each package of treats is an expression of our Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) values and our mission to maximize food for best and highest use. We see the potential in the overlooked, and PAWsitive Bones is the result!
